hammered

Every day the news comes in about roadside bombs going off in Iraq. Every day we are hammered with automobile ads on t.v. and in the newspapers. I was at my bank today and there is an exhibit of sculpture and paintings entitled " The art of the automobile" . It seems to me that the exhibit is lacking in some of the most important artistic contributions of the automobile, most notably the bomb craters and dead bodies in the middle east. Lets not forget the magnificent tinting of the sky around every metropolitan area of the world. The four horsemen of the apocalypse wouldn't be on horses in today's version -they would be in Escalades. The grill, or rather, cow-catcher on the front of the Escalade says to the pedestrian: " Out of my way or ye will be a corpse". The art of the automobile will ensure that we will all wind up as corpses under it's wheels...all of us except the drivers, the ceo's and board of directors of the corporate war machine that will surely consume us all. It will consume us because we feed it willingly and faithfully, as if we are in a state of hypnosis brought on by t.v. ads showing us what freedom we would gain by the ownership of a new powerful conveyance. The joke is that it is the car that owns us.
